Maycee Barber and Miranda Maverick are about to clash in a battle of flyweight prospects.
MMA Fighting confirmed with sources with knowledge of the matchup that Barber (8-2) and Maverick (9-2) will fight at a UFC event on July 24, following an initial report from ESPN that cited UFC President Dana White. Both fighters also posted about the upcoming matchup on social media.
Barber, 22, and Maverick, 23, are two of the brightest young talents to join the UFC’s 125-pound roster in the past couple of years.
It was Barber who burst onto the UFC scene first, earning a contract on the Contender Series in 2018 and then defeating her first three opponents by TKO. However, she’s stumbled in her previous two fights, losing unanimous decisions to Alexa Grasso and Roxanne Modafferi.
Maverick fought primarily for Invicta FC before signing with the UFC in 2020. She joined the UFC with a 7-2 record and has scored octagon victories over Gillian Robertson and Liana Jojua.
The July 24 UFC event has yet to be officially announced.
