A flyweight fight between Alexandre Pantoja and Brandon Royval is currently in the works for the upcoming UFC event on Aug. 21.
Multiple sources confirmed the matchup to MMA Fighting on Tuesday with verbal agreements in place for the fight. MMA Junkie initially reported the news.
With a 5-2 record in his past seven fights, Pantoja remains one of the top fighters in the world at 125 pounds while holding several impressive wins over names such as Manel Kape, Matt Schnell and Brandon Moreno. The former Ultimate Fighter competitor will look to build some momentum after earning a victory in his most recent appearance back in February.
Meanwhile, Royvall will fight for the first time since suffering a TKO loss to Moreno in a potential No. 1 contender’s bout at flyweight. Prior to that setback, Royval had rattled off four straight wins including two in the UFC while earning a pair of Fight of the Night bonuses along the way.
Pantoja vs. Royval joins a growing card scheduled on Aug. 21 with a location for the event still to be determined. No main event has been confirmed for the card yet either.
